Police have released the body of the Canadian found dead in a Lagos hotel to his family

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the body of a Canadian citizen, Mr Dwight Sullivan, found dead in a hotel on Victoria Island, has been handed over to his family for cremation.

Sullivan was found lifeless in his hotel room on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from officers from the Victoria Island Police Division following a distress call.

Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said officers promptly arrived at the scene and conducted an initial assessment of the situation. “Upon arrival, our officers observed that there were no visible signs of violence on the deceased, which indicates that the crime was not immediately suspected,” Adebisi explained.

He noted that the body was moved to a morgue for preservation while investigations into the circumstances of his death began. Police also contacted the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria, which facilitated communication with the deceased’s relatives.

“The relative then took custody of the body for cremation,” Adebisi confirmed.

The police spokesperson added that investigations were still ongoing to determine the cause of death.
