Police in Anambra arrest suspected child traffickers, rescue victims

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested an individual suspected of trafficking teenagers aged 13 to 16 years.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, told a press conference in Awka that the suspects had trafficked many teenagers to neighboring countries. Ikenga noted that some of the victims, who had been taken to Ghana, had been safely repatriated to Nigeria.

Police continue their search to arrest other members of the human trafficking network.

Ikenga explained that the arrest of the suspect followed increasing reports of missing teenagers in the state. He added that Police Commissioner Nnaghe Itam had ordered police personnel to take all necessary measures to address the problem.

“The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation with the police. This will help rescue other victims and track down other gang members,” Ikenga said.
