Police release the name of the suspect arrested in connection with the death of AriseNews TV presenter Somtochukwu

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, has announced the arrest of suspected armed robbers in connection with the death of AriseNews TV presenter, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, in a robbery incident at Unique Apartments, Gishiri Village, Katampe District, Abuja, on September 29, 2025.

Maduagwu reportedly jumped from the balcony of his apartment on the third floor of the building when the robbers stormed the estate while Danlami died from gunshot wounds he suffered while trying to stop the robbers.

“Following CP’s order to arrest the murderers of one Mr Barnabas Danlami – a security guard and Ms Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu ‘F’ an Arise TV staff (broadcaster, reporter and producer) which occurred at the unique apartment of Gishiri village, Katampe district on 29/09/2025 at around 03.30 WIB, members of the scorpion squad led by ACP Victor Godfrey, acting on actionable digital and reconstructive intelligence provided by Giga Forensics, a subsidiary of EIB STRATOC, has successfully arrested twelve (12) armed robbers involved in the operation,” the statement said.

Providing the names of the arrested suspects, the statement said:

“The suspects are:
Shamsudeen Hassan ‘m’ from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State, Hassan Isah ‘m’, 22 years, from Zaria, Kaduna State, Abubakar Alkamu alias Abba ‘m’, 27 years, from Musawa LGA, Katsina State,
Sani Sirajo alias Dan Borume ‘m’ 20 years, from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State, Mashkur Jamilu alias Abba ‘m’ 28 years, from Igabi LGA, Kaduna State, Suleiman Badamasi alias Dan-Sule ‘m’ 21 years, from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State and Abdul Salam Saleh alias Na-durudu ‘m’ from Katsina LGA, State Katsina.

Others are Zaharadeen Muhammad alias Gwaska ‘m’ 23 years, from clVhikun LGA, Kaduna State, Musa Adamu alias Musa Hassan ‘m’ 30 years, from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State,
Sumayya Mohammed alias Baby ‘m’ 27 years old from Samiaka LGA, Kaduna State, Isah Abdulrahman alias Abbati ‘m’, 25 years old from Zaria LGA, Kaduna State and Musa Umar alias Little ‘m’ 31 years old, from Maiduguri LGA, Borno State.

“It should be noted that shortly after the robbery incident that occurred on 29/09/2025 at around 03.30 at the unique apartment, Katampe Mabushi district, which tragically resulted in the death of Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu and Barnabas Danlami, four (4) suspects Shamsudeen Hassan, Alkamu, Sirajo and one other person were arrested through tracking of mobile phones stolen from the apartment during robbery.

“During interrogation, Shamsudeen Hassan admitted to shooting the security officers who tried to prevent them from entering the apartment. Sani Sirajo admitted that he tried to hold Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu from falling from the three-story building, but was overwhelmed by her weight.

“Shamsudeen further admitted to driving a white Honda CR-V jeep out of the apartment after the operation. The four suspects admitted that they each received the proceeds of crime amounting to IDR 200,000.

“Restored exhibits include:
One (1) custom made AK-47 rifle
Thirty-six (36) 9mm live bullets

One (1) locally made pistol
One (1) pump action gun
Two (2) live cartridges
Four (4) victims’ cell phones
Two (2) sharp knives
One (1) short sword
Nine (9) torch lights were used during the operation

‘In continuation of the investigation, yesterday, 08/10/2025, based on information and actionable digital intelligence that we also provided, the remaining members of the gang, Musa Umar alias Small, Hassan Isah and other accomplices involved in the Gishiri robbery were intercepted while on their way to a planned armed robbery operation scheduled to be held in maitama in the early hours of this morning.

“All suspects have confessed to the crimes, investigations are ongoing, and further developments will be communicated.”
