The police said that the agents saved 35 people kidnapped by the bandits over a year ago in the state of the Niger while they were transferred to Yauri in the state of Kebbi.
It has been reported that the bandits were moving from the Bernin-Gwari forest due to the authorization of the security forces in the area, between the police from 3 and 5 July 2025 before they were intercepted in the state of the Niger.
In a declaration issued in Minna, the head of the public relations of the Police of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Inhabitun, said: “The saved ones included women and children”.
He said: “About twenty-four victims kidnapped including women and children who have been kidnapped for over a year by different places in the state such as Pandogari, Madaka, Allawa, Sarkin-Pawa, even Taraba and other areas were moving to the state of Yauri, Kebbi.
“However, the tactical teams of the long-room police station Madaka-Makujeri Road intercepted most of the victims in a vehicle driven by Yusuf Abdullahi of B/Gwari who was transmitting to Yauri, to deliver them to other members of the group, while the others were dropped to the pan on another vehicle in Yauri”.
According to him, “in the same way, on July 4, 2025 at about 16.30, other victims who were made up of five women and six children were intercepted in Agwara during an attempt to cross the river in Yauri, State of Kebbi. DPO AGWARA DIVE them in custody”.
SP Inhabitun said that two magazines and sixty rounds of live ammunition were recovered on the scene, adding that they were transferred to the headquarters of the State Police, Minna for further investigations.
He said the victims were saved and brought to a medical structure for attention before gathering with their families, adding that the police commissioner, the command of the state of the Niger, the CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, praised the efforts of the joint security teams for this rescue and invited the public to provide information impossible to the security agencies to ensure that other victims are saved.
