Gunmen on Sunday kidnapped three Indian nationals and a Nigerian national along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the development at a press conference held at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.

He said two suspected kidnappers were killed in the operation.

The CP added that the suspects were in the bushes and they were hiding through a police covert operation.

“After the criminals saw the officers’ flashlights, they engaged in a gun duel with the law enforcement team.

“However, the anti-kidnapping squad’s shooting capabilities resulted in two suspects being incapacitated, while the other suspects fled with injuries and left their weapons behind.

“The victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

“The items that were successfully secured included 109 rounds of 7.62 mm caliber ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, and two mobile phones,” said Alamutu.
