Police stop 19-year-old woman from committing suicide in Lagos

Police officers in Lagos have stopped a 19-year-old woman who was attempting to commit suicide in the Ikorodu area of ​​the state.

State police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin revealed this in a post on his X account on Thursday.

He said officers attached to the Ikorodu Area Command rescued the woman.

The spokesperson said: β€œOn June 29 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a concerned citizen alerted authorities to a young girl who had attempted suicide by ingesting a dangerous chemical known as Sniper.

β€œOfficers who received the report were immediately deployed to the scene where the girl was found and prevented her from harming herself.

β€œWhen rescued, the woman, whose identity has been withheld, admitted that she was on the verge of committing suicide due to severe emotional stress.”

Hundeyin said the woman revealed she was impregnated by a man who later denied responsibility for the pregnancy.

β€œThe woman also revealed that she had been the victim of a fraudster who took her earnings from her Point of Sale (POS) business to further exacerbate her emotional and financial difficulties.

β€œThe young woman is currently receiving the necessary psychological support while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in her predicament.

β€œThe command wants to highlight the importance of mental health awareness and encourage anyone facing similar challenges to seek help immediately,” he added.
