Police were criticized while Sowore condemned Clampdown at the demonstrators

The non -back movement processor, Omoyle Sowore, on Monday, greatly criticized the behavior of police officers during the National Protest on Monday, condemning their treatment of demonstrators reported in various locations.

Ahead of the protest, the Nigerian police have issued an advisor to urge the organizer to cancel the demonstration, quoting obedience on National Police Day as an excuse to avoid disturbance. Apart from advisors, demonstrators gathered in big cities to voice their frustration with federal government policies.

Protest, which occurred in cities including Abuja and Port Harcourt, was tainted by chaos when law enforcers tried to dissolve the crowd using tear gas. In some cases, protesters are reportedly attacked, which leads to increased tension.

He criticized the strength of what he described as the neglect of the light -the rights of citizens and the opportunities that were missed to show professionalism.

“Today should be an opportunity for the police to show that they serve people,” he said. “On the contrary, they attack peaceful demonstrators without provocation. They fail in professionalism tests.”

He further accused that three people, including a journalist, were arrested and experienced inhumane treatment. According to Sowore, those who were detained were forced to lie down in drainage and physically attacked with wooden boards used for placards.

Protest, which occurred in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and other parts of the country, attracted citizens from various levels of society. Bringing placards and chanting slogans, demonstrators call for economic reform, emergency intervention in river states, and protection of freedom of expression.
