Polytechnic teachers threaten unliled demands

The Academic Staff Polytechnic Union (ASUP) has issued an ultimatum 21 days to the Federal Government to meet its extraordinary demands or the risk of strikes in these institutions.

President Asup, Mr. Shammah KPANJA, revealed this to journalists at the end of the National Executive Council of the Uni on Thursday in Abuja.

When said that the union demanded the release of a circular for payment of its strange academic allowance by national salary and salary commission (NSIWC).

According to him, the special academic allowance paid to academic staff in all polytechnics is a component of the 2010 ASUP/FGN Agreement.

He said NEC also expressed concern over sustainable decisions by the National Council for Technical Education (NBTE) to conduct outsourcing the accreditation process for polytechnics in this country.

When also revealed that many state governments have failed to implement new minimum wages.

“Considering the items listed above, our union NEC has decided to issue an ultimatum 21 days to the government to overcome the problem satisfactorily.

“The failure to take advantage of this window can lead to the declaration of trade disputes and withdrawal of our members’ services in all public and monothechnical polytechnics throughout the country,” said President Asup.
