“Poor structures that affect our learning, health conditions”, Kaduna students generate alarm

The students of the Technical College Kajuru complained of overcrowded classrooms and hostels, with an appeal for the Governor UBA Sani to be intervened ..

Students who were transferred from Kajuru to the Malale Technical College because of the insecurity explained that overcrowding and poor structures are influencing their learning results.

A student from the college of the boys’ hostel who would not want his name in the press has narrated their bad situation.

He said: “We are over 500 students sleeping in a hostel. Most of us sleep on the floor because there is no room. The rain has beaten here in the hostel. The roofs forgive, the windows are damaged. The environment is not favorable for us.

“We defecated in the open field around the school. No bathroom for us in the male hostel. We also bring the bathroom out.

“Due to the damaged windows here, the mosquitoes are biting us so, making sure that some of us have malaria regularly”.

The girls’ hostel is not excluded from these threats. Students’ luggage were also seen outside the hostel.

One of the girls of the girls said that their main problem in the female hostel is the lack of toilets and bathrooms.

He said “We only have one bath for over 150 girls. Some of our girls hostels complain about the itching in their private parts”.

“We have about 10 girls who have traveled home to treat infections. Our toilets are completely bad. The waste from the bathroom is leaving. And our environment is protruding and smelly.”

“Now that the weather is extremely hot, it has not been easy for us to sleep in the overcrowded hostel”.

Another student who identified himself as Elizabeth said: “We sleep on the floor while some of us sleep outside. The situation is worse during the rainy season and Hamattan because of the cold”.

She also complained of the overcrowded class and the lack of seminars in which they are designed to learn the practices.

Likewise, the president of the Old Boys Association of the school, Ndaks Timothy, underlined the need for government intervention.

β€œThe students were transferred from Kajuru to Malali because of the housing in Kajuru, when they brought them we thought that it was a few months not knowing that they will remain four years here. They were facing so many challenges in terms of accommodation

“The boys are kept in a structure without a bathroom and the girls are facing the same thing. Their boxes are kept out, sleep on the floor. Some of them in particular the girls suffer from infection,” he said.

Therefore, he invited the government and non -governmental organizations to assist students.

Aminu Illiyasu Kajuru, who is also an old school student, has invited the government to provide medical and staff equipment for students.

Kajuru, however, underlined the need to build toilets for boys and girls to end open defecation.
