Pope Leo said he hoped that his pathex could help the Catholic Church become a flare that illuminated the “dark night of this world” – when he led his first mass since being elected as the Pope.

“Because we are people who have chosen God as His, so we can state his beautiful actions who call us out of the darkness into extraordinary light,” he added.

Leo also said there was an arrangement “where it is not easy to preach the gospel and be a witness to the truth” and the context in which “people -believers are mocked, opposed, hated, or best tolerated and pity”.
After his election on Thursday, which was marked by white smoke that flowed out of the chimney above the sistine chapel after four rounds of voting for two days, Leo appeared on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

When Mass was opened on Friday, Buckingham Palace announced that the king had sent a private message to the Pope and congratulated him for his selection as the 267th Pope.
