Presidency Debunks claimed Tinubu ‘stopped a 5 -year visa for US citizens

The Presidential on Thursday denied the claim that the President of the Tinubu Bola had stopped the issuance of a five -year double entry visa to citizens of the United States.

Claims follow the imposition of visa restrictions on Nigerians by the administration of President Donald Trump.

Washington on Tuesday reduced the validity period for several visa categories for the Nigerians to three months and limit them to one entry.

Special advisors about information and strategies for the President, Bayo Onanuga, made clarification in a statement in Abuja.

He described the claim as wrong information.

The statement reads: “Ball President Ahmed Tinubu never stopped issuing a five -year double entry visa for US citizens. This continues in line with the existing bilateral agreement and the reciprocal principle.

“Immediately after serving, the administration of President Tinubu issued directions in all services that Nigeria applied all bilateral agreements with other countries and comply with the principle of reciprocity in diplomatic relations.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clearly stated the position of the Nigerian Federal Government for recent adjustments made by the United States non-immigrant visa policy for Nigerians.

“Ministries and other senior government officials will continue to be involved with the United States to overcome unfavorable restrictions in a just and fair way that reflects mutual respect and partnerships that exist between our two friendly countries.

“We want to reiterate that the reciprocal claim of the US government as a reason for the current visa policy against Nigeria does not accurately reflect the actual situation.

“The Nigerian government has not deviated from giving US non-immigrant visas reasons 5 years, just like the US continues to give the same thing to the Nigerians.

“The 90-day single entry visa validity period only applies to newly introduced e-visas, short-term visa categories for tourists and business people who may not want to undergo a standard visa application process and wait. E-visas do not need to be used online. Embassy.

“The e-visa policy is in line with the efforts of President Tinubu to increase investment, trade and tourism in the country, as well as promoting the ease of doing business for non-national.

“Although Nigeria has an e-visa policy for US citizens and several other countries, the US does not reply to this movement for Nigerians.

“In the spirit of cooperation, mutual understanding, and partnership that has marked the relationship between Nigeria and the United States for decades, the government led by Tinubu will continue to dialogue and be involved with US authorities to solve any problems that have caused recent developments.”
