The president of the SGFC Athletics Sports Club, Mr. Richard Opanuga, is on the moon after the triumph of his team in the newly completed Jagaban Cup.
SGFC Athletics emerged as champions of the Jagaban 2025 Cup after overcoming the hosts 36 Lion 5-4 in a penalty shooting, after a goalless draw.
The team took Lagos by assault with an outstanding performance, remaining undefeated throughout the competition. Their impressive exhibition earned them first place and, ultimately, the title of the championship.
“It’s time for SGFC Athletics to unleash their potentials,” said a euphoric from Mr. Opanuga. “I am surprised by this victory; we only came to compete and market our players, but the boys took me by surprise with their performance, and I am very excited.”
Mr. Opanuga also took the opportunity to congratulate the organizers of the tournament. “I want to congratulate the organizers, my friend Hajji Gafar Liameed, for the wonderful organization and for providing an opportunity for these talents to show themselves.”
While celebrating his victory, Mr. Opanuga acknowledged that SGFC Athletics still has a lot of work to do.
“SGFC Athletics will not be flattered by this victory. We still have a lot of work to do, but this victory is a sign of encouragement that we are doing something great. We will return and continue our preparation before the 2025 season of the NLO League.”
