President Tinubu celebrates Wole Soyinka at 91

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended sincere birthday wishes to the Nobel Prize winner and literary icon, Professor Wole Soyinka, while scores his 91st birthday.

In a declaration issued by his special information consultant on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president described Soyinka as a global fame figure whose immense contribution to literature, culture, human rights and national development remains unparalleled.

Soyinka, the first African to receive the Nobel Prize in literature in 1986, was praised for his extraordinary talent, evident in his prolific work corpus which includes theatrical performances, poems, essays and memories. Tinubu recognized the impact of Soyinka on education, pro-democracy struggles, the defense of human rights and cultural diplomacy in several decades.

The president observed that Soyinka was a lighthouse of inspiration not only for the Nigerians but also for the younger writers from all over the world, many of whom have reached international applause.

“I rejoice with the Nobel Prize, Professor Wole Soyinka, in reaching another year and praising his continuous service and his contributions to the development of our nation,” said Tinubu. “Professor Soyinka is an unusual patriot who has continued to demonstrate his immortal love for our country.”

Highlighting their personal and professional relationship, Tinubu underlined his appreciation for their long -standing friendship and collaborative efforts aimed at making the progress of Nigeria advance.

“While the journey begins in the last decade of his centenary, I wish Professor Soyinka good health and other years in mind,” added Tinubu.

The birthday message comes while the taxes pour globally to honor the literary titan whose item remains influential in modeling the discourse on justice, democracy and cultural identity.
