The Bauchi State chapter of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has rejected what it called an attempt by Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration to cover up its ‘shameless record’ in the state.
The PRP in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Secretary in the state, Abdulazeez Haruna, accused
Mohammed leads a government full of fraud, manipulation and disregard for democratic principles.
The party also slammed the governor for trying to deceive the people about the current realities in the state.
The statement reads:
“The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Bauchi State Chapter, has come to know of the misleading and deceptive statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, titled: ‘LG Election: Bala Mohammed Will Keep His Promises’, in which he seeks to whitewash the shameful record of the Bala Mohammed-led administration in Bauchi State.
“In his statement, Gidado shamelessly defends the indefensible, trying to portray Bala Mohammed as a champion of democracy and good governance. Nothing could be further from the truth.
“The facts are clear: Bala Mohammed has led a government riddled with fraud, manipulation and disregard for democratic principles.
“We recall the 2020 Local Government elections in Bauchi State, which were marred by widespread fraud, violence and manipulation by the PDP-led government. The election was fraught with fraud, with winners declared even before polls closed. The people of Bauchi State were left disappointed and frustrated, feeling that their votes did not count.
“Gidado’s attempt to rewrite history will not fool anyone. The Bauchi State Electoral Commission (BASIEC), under the Bala Mohammed administration, blatantly disregarded due process by fabricating and hastily announcing election results and closing its offices without waiting for actual data from polling units to be compiled.
“This outrageous act left election officials with no means of communicating actual results, thereby undermining the integrity of the electoral process. Ultimately, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of all the chairmanships and councillorships, without any attempt being made to ensure transparency, accountability or adherence to ethical standards.
“Given these facts, we wonder why Gidado would dare to claim that the Bala Mohammed administration has made “unprecedented development progress” in the state. What progress?
“Has he forgotten that our economy is still in a dire state, our healthcare system is in shambles, and our people are still struggling to access basic amenities? Has he forgotten that hunger and poverty are killing people in Bauchi State today while the state government is doing nothing to address it? Has he forgotten that farmers in Bauchi State are in limbo without receiving any assistance from the state government?
“The PRP demands that Gidado apologize for his half-truths and lies. We call on Bala Mohammed to admit his government’s mistakes and work to correct them. We will not be swayed by empty rhetoric and disinformation.
“Finally, we urge Governor Bala Mohammed to take concrete steps to address the concerns of the people about the upcoming local government elections. The people of Bauchi State deserve better than a government that is insensitive to their plight.”
