Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on May 8 for high-level talks focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine and stiffened US-Russian relations, Kremlin announced on Tuesday.
The meeting underlined the developing strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing, which had strengthened since Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022.
“The most important issue will be discussed in a one-on-one meeting, the topic of Ukraine and Russia-As relations,” Kremlin’s aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.
XI’s visit will be marked by a full state appreciation, and he is expected to take an important role in the celebration of the May 9th Annual Russian victory on the red field, where he will appear as an honorary guest.
Although China consistently presents itself as a neutral actor in the conflict, the Western government is of the opinion that the harmony of Beijing and Moscow has provided vital economic and diplomatic support to Kremlin.
