Former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has criticized this new overseas journey which was carried out simultaneously by the President of Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Speaking on Sunday in Abuja, Wabara described the frequent journey of the first two citizens abroad as “the peak of executive rascality” and clear neglect of the responsibility of their leadership.
The Chairperson of the People’s Democratic Party Supervisory Board (PDP) reacts to the two-week working visit of President Tinubu to France and Vice President Shettimima traveled to Dakar, Senegal, where he represented Nigeria during the 65th anniversary of the country on April 4.
The former member of the parliament regretted that the absence of the two leaders meant leaving the country without upper -level leadership.
He described their actions as a major mistake in the duties and signs of neglect of unsettling for the Nigerians, especially when the state faced serious national challenges.
Although he acknowledged the President’s right to travel if necessary, Wabara stressed that the protocol demanded that power be officially transferred to the Vice President in acting capacity.
He questioned the reasons behind the two high -ranking officials abroad at the same time, said that if Nigeria needed representatives in Senegal, the task could be handled by the Minister of Foreign Affairs or other senior officials.
He said the decision to travel even though there were many national concerns that were ongoing – switched from increasing political tension in Edo, Rivers, and Bayelsa countries to worsen security conditions in several parts of the northern and middle belts – not only careless but very unwilling to respect the Nigerians.
“Surprisingly heard that the two high -ranking state officials could leave simultaneously, not leaving anyone at the top of the leadership of the affairs. Nigeria was not a toy. This kind of absence reflects the lack of seriousness and neglect of the office oath they vow to uphold,” said Wabara.

He further criticized administrative priorities, asking how the two leaders could ignore many crises – such as attacks in the highlands, zamfara, sokoto, and states of states – and foster insecurity throughout the country. He said this double absence reflects both extraordinary responsibilities or lack of readiness to govern.
Wabara also urged the National Assembly to rise to its constitutional role in supervision, warning what he called the culture of developing impunity and uncontrolled power in the executive group.
He concluded by calling for President Tinubu to adopt democratic standards and governance procedures that were accepted internationally, warning that continuing to ignore the right leadership will only expose Nigeria to be ridiculed on the global stage.
“Governance is a serious problem. Leaving the nation in Limbo, even temporarily, sending wrong messages to citizens and international communities,” he said.
