Nigerian pop star Divine Ikubor, popularly known in the music world as Rema, has explained why he smokes so he can feel free.
The “Calm Down” singer revealed in an interview with GRM Daily that he smoked because he was anxious about growing up quickly and supporting his family; he now wishes he could be a kid again.
He stressed that kids make mistakes and that’s acceptable, but when someone is 19 or 20 and famous and they make those mistakes, the same mistakes a 19-year-old would make, everyone is going to come after that person.

She explained, “I just wanted to be a rebel again. You know kids make mistakes and that’s acceptable, but when you’re 19 or 20 and famous and you make those mistakes, the same mistakes a 19-year-old would make, everyone’s after you. All because you’re in the spotlight and they’re like, ‘Oh, you’re not supposed to make mistakes like that,’ why? I’m still a kid!”
“I know people who first smoked when they were 13 and I’m 24. I smoke because I just want to feel free, and I just want to be a rebel and I want to break some rules. My whole life feels so planned right now; so many things are scheduled and I’m getting tired. I just pour that freedom into my music,” Rema concluded.
