RENAISSANCE UNIVERSITY (RNU) PUBLISHES THE ADMISSION FORM FOR HIGHER EDUCATION FOR THE 2024/2025 ACADEMIC SESSION

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the regular postgraduate programmes of Renaissance University for the academic session 2024/2025, leading to the award of Postgraduate, Masters and Doctoral degrees in the following departments and institutes/centres

Renaissance University is comprised of the following faculties: Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Health Sciences. We offer various courses accredited by the National Universities Council (NUC). Our courses are taught by highly qualified professors and teachers in our eco-friendly environment. This is put in place to ensure you get the best quality education you deserve.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION TO 3RD AND 4TH CYCLE PROGRAMS

Applicants for admission to any postgraduate programme at the University must:

1. Have obtained 5 credits in not more than two sittings at WASC or GCE or NECO or NABTEB including English Language.

2. Applicants must also meet the minimum admission requirements for undergraduate and graduate programs in their fields of interest for postgraduate studies.

3. Candidates must be graduates of Renaissance University or other recognized universities and possess the above qualifications.

POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM

The following persons may be eligible for admission to the graduate degree:

1. Graduates of Renaissance University or other recognized universities who have obtained a bachelor’s degree with at least a third-class honors with at least a 2.0 GPA on a 5-point scale.

2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a grade point average of 3.50 on a five-point scale or its equivalent are eligible for admission. For the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, candidates who hold other professional qualifications such as Associate Institute of Bankers, Associate Certified Chartered Accountants, Associate Cost and Management Accountants, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chartered Professional Accountants, Associate Chartered Institute of Accountants, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, etc. have added advantage for admission. Candidates with professional qualifications including HND who have obtained pre-professional qualifications including 5 credits in WASC or GCE O/L or NECO to satisfy the basic university entrance requirements, for admission to Bachelor’s degree courses in their respective departments.

3. In addition to points (i) or (ii) above, in special cases, candidates may be admitted after passing the tests prescribed by the Department/Faculty.

4. Candidates who possess other qualifications considered equivalent to those above and acceptable to the Graduate Council and the University Senate may be admitted.

MASTER’S PROGRAM (M.A, M.SC, MBA and MPA)

The following persons are eligible for admission to the Master’s degree:

Graduates of Renaissance University or other recognized universities who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines with at least a second-class honours degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50;

• Applicants holding a relevant graduate degree from Renaissance University or any other recognized university with at least one credit level passed with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 5-point scale or 3.0 on a 4-point scale;

• Candidates whose first degrees are not ranked but have an average mark of 50% or more;

• For M.Ed. programmes, candidates holding at least a second-class honours degree in teaching subjects and at least a postgraduate diploma in education with merit, or those holding a third-class honours degree in teaching subjects and a postgraduate diploma in education with credit or higher;

• For the MPA degree programme, candidates must, in addition to points (i) and (ii) above, be administrative/management employees serving in the public or private sector with at least two years of post-qualification professional experience;

• Holders of Fellowship level professional qualifications such as FIMLT, FNILT, NIPR or their equivalents obtained by examination. However, candidates holding the professional certificates listed above must have worked as Senior Technologist(s) or in equivalent positions for at least three years;

• Candidates who possess qualifications other than those listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University of Nigeria.

DOCTORAL PROGRAM (Ph.D.)

Applicants from Renaissance University or other recognized universities who have obtained a master’s degree appropriate to the proposed fields of study will be eligible for the doctorate. Specifically:

A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 5-point scale and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale are required for admission to the doctoral program in all departments except those departments listed in C(ii) below:

A minimum GPA of 4.0 on a 5-point scale is required for admission to doctoral programs in the following departments/faculties: Music, Economics, Public Administration and Local Government, Psychology and Faculties of Education, Medical Sciences, Health Sciences and Technology and Business Administration.

A minimum average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or a B average (60%) at the master’s level, provided that satisfactory research work for the medical portion of the master’s program is completed.

MASTER/DOCTORATE PROGRAM

• A candidate who has obtained a very good distinction from a recognized university may be admitted to a master’s/doctoral program in his/her discipline. (See the regulations on graduate studies for more details)

• A candidate holding a master’s degree from a recognized university with a GPA of at least 3.50 on a 5-point scale or 3.00 on a 4-point scale who wishes to pursue a doctorate in a related field or department will be eligible for the master’s/doctoral program. Any candidate who is not qualified for admission to the doctoral program due to a low GPA is still not qualified for admission to the master’s/doctoral program.

• For faculties and departments where possession of a master’s degree with an average of 4.00 points on a scale of 5 points or more is the condition for admission to the doctoral program, candidates with an average of 3.50 and above, but not exceeding 4.00, may apply for admission to the master’s/doctoral program. Once the master’s courses specified by the department have been completed, the candidate will be qualified for final registration in the doctoral program if he or she reaches the average of 4.00 in the master’s courses.

NOTE: A candidate admitted to the master’s/doctoral program has two options:

First, he could complete the master’s program and then apply to continue with the doctoral program without filling out a new application form if he successfully completes the master’s degree with a minimum of 3.50 or 4.0 GPA on a 5-point scale depending on the department/faculty.

Second, the student’s overall course performance may be assessed after the first two semesters of the master’s/doctoral program. If the student achieves a course average of 3.50 or 4.0 and above (depending on the department/faculty), the Senate, upon recommendation of the departmental and faculty graduate committees and the school council, may approve the candidate to continue in the doctoral program without having fully completed the master’s program.

COURSE DURATION

  • Graduate Diploma Graduate Diploma (regular) – Two semesters
  • Master (regular): A minimum of 3 full-time semesters and 5 part-time semesters in all departments/faculties except the departments

TRANSCRIPTIONS

Candidates are to download here the Transcript Application Forms (D2) also provided online and submit them to their former universities/institutions for forwarding their academic transcript(s) to “Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, Renaissance University Ugbawka Enugu State”.

FURTHER INFORMATION

All required information must be completed online except the transcript. Copies of qualification certificates/declaration of results and NYSC discharge certificate (exemption or exclusion certificate) must be attached. Please note that the “To Whom It May Concern” form will not be accepted in lieu of the certificates specified above.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL CANDIDATES

1. All applicants will undergo a computerized graduate admissions process.

2. The date of the selection for admission to higher education will be announced later.

3. NOTE: For the doctoral program, the candidate must have published at least one article of his doctoral thesis in a journal certified by Renaissance University as a condition of obtaining the degree.

4. A plagiarism test must be carried out on the master’s project report and doctoral thesis before they can be approved.
