Renard linked with Super Eagles coaching job

Hervé Renard has been linked with the vacant coaching position at Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Following the resignation of current Rivers United manager Finidi George, the Eagles are yet to find a new coach.

The NFF Executive Committee at a meeting in June announced that an expatriate Technical Advisor will be hired, following the Eagles’ poor qualifying campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Now, according to footmercato.net, the NFF has approached Renard for the vacant Super Eagles coaching position.

In addition to the NFF, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has also shown interest in Renard, who is currently in charge of the French women’s team that will participate in this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Renard was in charge of Zambia’s Chipolopolo when they lost to the Super Eagles in the quarter-finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

In his second stint as Zambia coach, he guided the team to the 2012 AFCON title, where they defeated a star-studded Ivory Coast side on penalties.

In 2015, he claimed his second AFCON title after leading Côte d’Ivoire to defeat the Black Stars of Ghana in a penalty shoot-out.

In February 2016, Renard was appointed new coach of the Atlas Lions of Morocco and led them to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, their first since 1998.

He led Saudi Arabia to one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history after beating Argentina 2-1 in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
