The controversial entertainment and activist Charles, popularly known as Charly Boy or Fada area, said that the authorities could rename the places but not the inheritance.
Charly Boy spoke to Swift placed on the local government’s decision to rename Charly Boy Bus Stop in Lagos after another musician, Olamide Baddo.
It is believed that the bus stop, “Charly Boy Bus Stop”, in the Axis of Gbagada-Bariga, has gained its name from the influence and presence of the musician Maverick and the social cruciate in the area during the peak of the years of activism.
However, the state authorities of Lagos through the executive president of Bariga Lcda, Kolade Alabi, on Friday renamed the bus stop as Olamide Baddo.
But in a fiery post on social media, Charly Boy has rejected the redenomination as an act led by fear and insecurity, declaring that while the names on the signs could have changed, the spirit and inheritance behind them remained indelible.
“Dey says that Dey Don changes the name of the Charly Boy bus stop. Hmmm. Very interesting.
“But let me remember something simple: you can rename a place … but you can’t rename a legacy,” he shot opted.
He claimed that the name of the bus stop after him was not a political gesture, but an organic act of the people of the community who recognized his contribution to the struggle for justice and the empowerment of the Nigerian normal.
“Bariga, Gbagada, the entire Lagos knows the truth. That name Charly Boy Bus Stop was not given by politicians. It was appointed by the people – the same people fought, walked and enhanced.”
He accused those who behind the change of name of codardia, Abd described the renaissance as a symbolic attempt to erase his influence and silence his inheritance.
“It is fear. The fear of a boy who refused to bow. Fear of a man who challenged the oppressors. Fear of a man who did not ask for the system to be accepted.”
Charly Boy said that, regardless of what the authorities do to erase the physical markers of his presence, his inheritance remains intact in the minds of the Nigerians who still dare to question the authority.
“So go ahead, change the name. But remember: you can’t change the truth. You can’t delete fire.
The enigmatic entertainer assured that, no matter what his inheritance will live.
“Still here. I’m still standing. Fight still. His inheritance? You will go over everyone.”
The move to rename the bus stop has triggered online conversations, with many that express conflicting reactions. While some consider it a routine government exercise, others see it as an need for uselessness insisting on the fact that people will continue to retain the old name they are used to. Yet many others consider change as an irredentism Yoruba stripping aimed at the non -indigenous people of Lagos.
