Representative, Senate Encouragement for the CBT Center in all 774 LGA after the error of Jambia affects 2025 UTME

After the technical disorders that damaged 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the House of Representatives had called for the formation of at least one Computer-Based Testing Center (CBT) in each 774 regional government in the country.

The resolution, which was passed during the plenary on Thursday, followed the new recognition by the Joint Revenue and Matriculation Council (Jamb) that technical errors interfere with the exam, which affected the performance of hundreds of thousands of candidates.

Parliamentary members emphasize that the wider and more fair CBT center distribution will help prevent recurrence of these challenges and ensure that each candidate, regardless of geography, has access to reliable testing infrastructure.

The Parliament also appealed to calm among the candidates affected and their families, following Prof.’s emotional apology. Ishaq Oloyede is emotional during the Briefing Press Wednesday. Oloyede, in a rare time from openness, acknowledged that technical deviations compromise the exam experience for nearly 380,000 candidates in 157 centers in Lagos and Southeast.

Meanwhile, the senate also mapped the same course. Last month, the National Assembly Room room indicated a plan to support the inclusion of CBT centers in the 2026 National Budget, ensuring that there were no regional government areas left without access to digital examination facilities.

The Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Tertiary and Tetfund Institutions, Senator Mohammed Dandutse, while monitoring UTME 2025 in Katsina, expressed concern over the availability of uneven ICT centers, especially in rural areas.

“In my district, Katsina South, only two of the 11 regional government areas functioned by the CBT center,” complained Dandutse. “This is a serious gap in access. We cannot expect justice in education if we do not provide the same infrastructure.”

He added that the Senate, in collaboration with the House of Representatives, would work to ensure funding was allocated to the CBT center in all LGA in the 2026 fiscal plan.

UTME 2025, who saw public protests that had never occurred before the deviation, had triggered national conversations about justice in national examination. Many candidates, some with the academic track record of stars, reported a score that was significantly lower than estimates, encouraging reviews and investigations by Jamb.

According to Oloyede, the identified error comes from incomplete updates to the testing server in certain centers. This problem, although quickly discusses the middle examination cycle, requires resit for candidates at the affected location.
