Representatives meet Edun, Bagudu in 2024-25 Budget Implementation

The House of Representatives Committee on Apropriations on Wednesday met with the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and its national planning partner, Atiku Bagudu, on the budget for implementing 2024-2025.

The Chair of the Committee, Abubakar Bichi, who spoke to journalists at the end of a closed meeting in Abuja, said the Nigerians were very concerned about the budget execution.

He added that involvement was in accordance with the constitutional mandate of the National Assembly to monitor budget performance and ensure effective service provision to Nigerians.

Bichi said: “We have been involved with the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Budget; Both of them acknowledge the concern and agree to work harder so that Nigeria can begin to see the results seen from the budget.

“Basically, members are seriously concerned about this, and the Minister of Budget and the Minister of Finance also confirmed to us that the Nigerians will see many changes and developments for this budget.

“Before we stretch it to 2026, you will see a serious change between now until the end of the year. They have made an appointment to us, so let’s see how far we can go.”

In his words, Edun said the meeting was a review of the 2024 budget performance.

He added that around 80 percent of the 2024 budget had been implemented this month.

“Basically, overall around 80 percent is applied; As you know, the budget for 2024 is extended by the National Assembly until December, so it is still running. So it is still ongoing work.

“We see the 2025 budget and we ensure that projects that touch the grassroots, provide support, resources, and facilities such as roads, irrigation, and other infrastructure projects are given adequate attention and priority,” the Minister said.

On his party, Bagudu said the committee members valued the administrative achievements of the Tinubu Bola President.

He claimed that parliament members praised the executive respect for the National Assembly and an excellent working relationship between the federal and legislative government.
