Representatives suspend the process for the appointment of Uniabuja VC

The House of Representatives has stopped the process of appointment of the new Vice Chancellor for Abuja University while waiting for the conclusions from the ongoing investigation against the leadership dispute at the institution.

The Chairperson of the DPR Committee on University Education, Abubakar Fulata, revealed this in a statement after a round table with the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Patricia Lar, on Friday in Abuja.

He appealed to various parties to embrace dialogue to ensure stable academic activities at the university.

Fulata said: “We urge the relevant stakeholders to hold all the processes that will lead to the emergence of new VCs to controversy which results in leadership disputes handled.

“The committee, under my leadership, is fully opposed to whatever will affect the calendar and smooth running of the university system.”

MPs said that they followed the previous petition about the sacks of several officials and the dissolution of the council who ruled at the university, the committee took steps to investigate the problem to ensure a reasonable process.

He also revealed that efforts were ongoing to recover 11,000 hectares of land owned by the university but were revoked by the Minister of Federal Capital (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

“The DPR Committee on University Education has taken steps to intervene in the revocation of around 11,000 hectares of land owned by Abuja University by the Federal Capital Minister, Mr. Nyasom Wike.

“The committee’s intervention decision is the sequel to the petition by the Abuja University Alumni Association, looking for parliamentary interventions.

“The association noted that the FCT Minister seized 11,000 hectares of land from Abuja University while leaving school with only 4,000 hectares,” added the chairman.
