The 20 medical students who were freed after nine days in captivity met with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun at the Police Headquarters in Abuja on Sunday night.
The students from the Universities of Jos and Maiduguri were kidnapped in Benue State while on their way to Enugu to attend a conference. They arrived at the Force Headquarters at about 5.35pm on Sunday, accompanied by their Vice Chancellor.
The meeting was attended by the IGP, Vice Chancellor, as well as the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Benneth Igweh, and his counterpart from Benue State.

The kidnapping has sparked widespread concern, prompting a significant response from law enforcement. The police chief ordered the deployment of tactical resources, including helicopters, drones and special vehicles, to expedite the rescue of the students. Additional detectives were also sent to Benue State to assist in the operation.
In a statement confirming the release of the students on Saturday, Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi said no ransom was paid for their release, noting that the rescue operation was carried out with tactical precision and professionalism.
