Resident doctors begin strike to protest kidnapping of co-workers

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Monday announced a seven-day warning strike to press for the demands of their abducted colleagues.

The victim, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, was kidnapped along with her husband by suspected bandits on December 27 last year in Kaduna.

The decision to commence the strike was taken at an emergency meeting of the NARD National Executive Council held in Abuja.

In a chat with journalists after the meeting, the association’s President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, decried the growing insecurity in the country.

He added that the attack was a direct response to the kidnapping of the victim, who was the Registrar of the National Eye Center, Kaduna.

Resident Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, on August 15 held a peaceful protest to demand the release of their colleague.
