Cameroon’s head coach, Rigobert Song has tipped Nigeria as one of the favorites to clinch the title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Song’s Indomitable Lions suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Super Eagles in a round of 16 clash at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday.
Despite their efforts, Cameroon failed to register more than a shot on target throughout the match.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Song commended Nigeria for their performance, and a “deserved victory”.
“Nigeria played a good game. They are a solid side and they proved that against us. Congratulations to them,” Song said after the game.

Reflecting on his own team’s performance, Song emphasized that Cameroon is in a rebuilding phase.
“We are a young team, still in a rebuilding process. We made a couple of mistakes which is normal with a young team like ours.
“Nigeria has always been a favourite and I think they have the quality to win the competition.”
