River administrators ask more time to make a short reps

Rivers’s single state administrator, Admiral Ibok-Ete IBA (RETD), on Friday, asked more time to give a brief direction to members of the Ad Hoc Committee about developments in the state.

He submitted a request at a meeting with a committee in Abuja.

This follows his failure to appear before the committee on Thursday.

Ibas, who expressed his regret over his inability to attend previous involvement, said the absence was not ignored, but because of demands that were weighted and urgent to stabilize governance in the river.

He said: “I always hold the National Assembly in the highest case. I realize the importance of your supervision responsibilities and your interest in the progress made in the river, which is currently relatively calm, but still fragile.

“Which says, I only ask for your understanding and the pleasure of this committee to give me additional time to prepare and present a comprehensive and constructive briefing given the complexity and sensitivity of the current transition period in the river.

“It is important that every involvement with this committee is carried out with a depth, accuracy, and decent clarity.

“I remain fully committed to working with the committee and to ensure that all relevant information is available in time to support your important work.

Committee Chair, Julius Ihonvbere, who spoke to journalists after a closed meeting, said the committee decided to give a new date to a single administrator.

He encouraged the administrator to feel comfortable and emphasize that the committee members were carefully chosen to ensure broad representatives in all geopolitical zones and legislative experiences.

“I want you to feel relaxed because the members you see here are carefully chosen based on Zonal representatives and DPR membership to advance the progress that Rivers need to make to be an inseparable part of the holistic structure of democracy represented by Nigeria today.

“We have shown repeatedly our preparedness to do this work efficiently and effectively,” he convinced.
