River: Delta activist Niger detonated PDP, asking the administrator to take into account state funds

A member of the Rivers Elder Forum, Ann-Kio Briggs, has accused the Democratic Party (PDP) of people of betraying the people of the country by failing to intervene firmly during the prolonged political crisis in the state.

Briggs, who spoke at Channels Television Sunday Politics, said that PDP had enjoyed unwavering support from Rivers since 1999 but failed to act when internal disputes increased.

He said: “As a stakeholder and elder, I feel disappointed by PDP. Since 1999, Rivers, including me, consistently supported the party. If the PDP had intervened at the beginning, both in the river and as a dominant political force in Delta Niger, the current crisis could be avoided.”

Activist Delta Niger also rejected the expression of thank you Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the President of Bola Tinubu for peace intermediaries in the state, emphasized that not all river residents were shared sentiment.

“Not everyone at Rivers State will be grateful forever to the President or Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike. I am unhappy or grateful to APC like the Governor. He is a politician; I do not,” he said.

He argues that both the Congress of all Progressive (APC) and PDP have contributed to worsen the crisis, while criticizing the lack of transparency about the peace agreement by all parties.

“It cannot be accepted when politicians make agreements on our heads. We do not know what insisted the president, what was agreed upon, or how this decision would affect us. Being impossible to flow with politicians,” he said.

Briggs demanded accountability from the former Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Ibok-eet Iba (RETD), who served as a single state administrator during the six-month emergency regulation stated by President Tinubu in March 2025.

He stated that all funds spent during his term of office must be taken into account.

“The biggest lesson for Rivers is to realize that our rights are bigger and more basic than what politicians think. They will not be in their place without people in the state of Rivers,” he added.

Governor Fubara disagreed with Wike over the control of the country’s political structure shortly after he served in 2023. The dispute divided the Council Council and caused instability in the state

On March 18, Tinubu stated a six -month emergency and suspended Fubara, his deputy, and member of the House of Assembly.

Fubara returned to the office last week after undergoing a suspension of six months.
