Rivers APC warns Ganduje, says he is inciting anarchy

NIGERIA GOVERNORS RANKING JANUARY 2021: Ganduje the only voice of reason

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has warned that the response of the party’s national working committee (NWC) is a direct invitation to anarchy in the state.

The warning came after the NWC ordered Chief Tony Okocha to commence the Congress process from ward level to state level in October, despite a court ruling dismissing Okocha’s interim committee and reinstating Chief Emeka Beke and his executives as elected Exco of the party.

Darlington Nwauju, the party’s spokesman in Rivers State, said in a statement that “the danger signals are countless and have the potential to scare away investors as no business or investment can thrive in an atmosphere devoid of the rule of law.”

Nwauju stressed that no individual or group of individuals has the right under law to act, serve or represent the Rivers State APC branch without the express approval of the duly elected Executive of the party under Emeka Beke, as doing so would amount to contempt of court.

The party also warned against believing “fake news” spread by Festus Fuanter, the APC Assistant National Secretary, who claimed that the legitimately elected APC Executive in Rivers State had long been dissolved by the Courts.

Nwauju described this suggestion as “totally untrue” and “very unfortunate,” adding that it showed the enormous capacity of these individuals to maintain institutional memory.

The party also criticized the current activities of the NWC, saying that it is a major cog in the party’s wheel of progress and shows a rather reticent attitude towards party cohesion while undermining pluralism of thought and encouraging dissent.

Nwauju urged Nigerians to scrutinize the entire forty-eight-page judgment delivered by Justice SH Aprioku in Suit No. PHC/CS/3592/2023, stressing that the suit was filed on behalf of members of the State Executive Committee who were aggrieved by the Secretary of the Rivers State chapter of the APC and not by the Chairman.
