Rivers: Because I accepted the emergency rule – Fubara

The governor of the State of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, said that his refusal to legally contest the six -month emergency state declared by President Bola Tinubu was motivated by the need to safeguard peace and stability in the state.

On Friday in a state transmission, shortly after officially resuming the functions following the suspension of the emergency rule, Fubara said he deliberately chosen cooperation for the clash during the crisis.

“As your governor, I agreed to respect the state of emergency declaration and I chose to cooperate with Mr. President and the National Assembly, led by my belief that no sacrifice was too great to guarantee the peace, stability and progress of the state of the rivers,” he said.

The governor explained that he resisted the pressure to challenge “the constitutionality of the state of emergency state, the suspension of democratic institutions and other actions underwent during the difficult period”.

Fubara praised President Tinubu for successfully mediated between the interested parties, which led to the reconciliation between himself, former governor and minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike and members of the House of Assembly of the State of the Rivers.

“During this six -month period, Mr. President kindly mediated the peace process with all the parties successfully. Our leader, his excellence, Nyesom Wike, all members of the house of assembly of the State of the rivers, and I, as your governor, have all accepted to bury the auction and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear state”, he said.

The governor has ensured residents that his administration would now focus on the consolidation of peace, the reconstruction of trust and the acceleration of development after months of political tension.

“Ample opportunities remain for the adjustments, reconciliation and inclusiveness necessary. We remember the saying: the most expensive peace is cheaper than the cheapest war,” Smubara observed.

He urged the rivers to embrace “a new beginning” and work together with renewed hopes and determination to build a stronger and more peaceful state.
