The Rivers State Police Command on Thursday unveiled a fake police inspector, Fred Monday, who masterminded a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating in four states: Rivers, Delta, Edo and Akwa Ibom.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said Monday’s arrests were the result of a chance encounter while arresting five suspected cult members.
To their surprise, on Monday, wearing full police camouflage clothing and with the rank of Police Inspector, he was found armed with an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines and 29 live bullets.
During interrogation on Monday, a 31-year-old man from Wiyakara Community in Khana Local Government Area, confessed to impersonating a policeman.

His confessional statement exposed the fraudulent network, revealing that he purchased the rifle in 2021 for N850,000 from an accomplice named Goodluck, also known as Boy-J.
According to Commissioner Disu, Monday also purchased police uniforms, magazines, ammunition and hand grenades from the same source.
βMonday further admitted to using his fake identity to provide security cover for members of the Viking Brotherhood during their cult initiation ceremonies in Khana,β Disu said.
Fred Mondayβs arrest has sent shockwaves through the region, as the reach and influence of his syndicate has left residents shaken. The police commissioner praised his teamβs diligence in uncovering the fake inspectorβs true identity, and vowed to continue fighting crime and impersonation.
βWe will not tolerate individuals impersonating police officers, using their false status to perpetuate crimes and undermine trust in our institutions,β Disu stressed.
