The former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi has finally decamped from the congress of all progressives, APC.
Amaechi also accused APC of hitting the 2027 elections with the independent national electoral commission, Incen.
He declared it in an interview following the presentation of the provisional manager of the African democratic congress, ADC, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Amaechi, who revealed that he had resigned from the APC on Tuesday evening, expressed surprise that he had not been expelled from the party, despite having warned not to send him invitations to meetings.
“I left the APC last night,” he confirmed.
“I never participated in a meeting. The last time they invited me, I warned them.
“I said, if I invite me more to any meeting … in fact, I was surprised by the fact that I was not even expelled because I warned them in writing, I don’t even invite me to any meeting.
“You can’t be in a club where most people are stealing and you don’t say anything.”
When he was asked why he chose not to join or support the current administration, but he seemed to ask for a change of government loudly, he replied:
“No, it’s not about changing the government. If it were just about changing the government, there would be no need to do it. It is about changing Nigeria.
“Nigeria is completely destroyed. People cannot eat. People cannot buy food. There is no money to buy food. Everything has disappeared. Inflation is at the peak. The federal government is committed to trying to divert the elections. The INNC is helping them to divert the elections.
“No, no, no. What must happen here is that we have to start not only a party but a movement. It must be a movement that brings the Nigerians, alone to take control, not us.”
