The inaugural showdown is the setting for what promises to be one of the most anticipated football matches on campus this year: the FUTA World Cup final, where SAAT 26 will take on SEET 26 in a clash that carries pride, history and the dream of lifting the newly renamed competition’s first trophy.
At 2:00 pm at the main FUTA field on Saturday, two of the strongest teams in the tournament will meet in a final that has caught the attention of students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. For both sides, the match represents more than just a game; It is an opportunity to cement his legacy in the history of FUTA football.
Two teams. A trophy. A champion.
SEE 26 Looking to finally finish the job
For SEET 26, reaching the finals is not uncharted territory. Before the tournament became what is now known as the FUTA World Cup, the engineering team had already earned a reputation as consistent finalists in collegiate competitions.
But consistency hasn’t always translated into silverware.
Now, under the guidance of coach Obodo Joshua, popularly known as Jboy, SEET believes that this season they could finally achieve the breakthrough they have been chasing.
“Before the tournament changed its name to the FUTA World Cup, we were in the final,” coach Obodo said before the match during an interview with FUTA FABRIZIO. “I’m pretty sure our boys will reach the final again because this is one of our best seasons in this competition.”
Beyond the tactical preparations, the coach sees the final as a match of special rivalry between two outstanding faculties.
“It will be an exciting final. It will be our little Classic between SAAT and SEET,” he said. “It will be quite nice.”
For SEET, the finale is also about rewriting a narrative that has followed them for years.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us since my level 200 days,” Obodo added. “We have been to three finals and I assure you that this one will be different. Come support us: we will change our history.”
SAAT 26 chasing a historic first title
While SEET came to the finals with experience, SAAT 26 came with something just as powerful: drive and hunger to make history.
This is the farm team’s first major appearance in the competition, making the occasion a historic moment for the team and its supporters.
Leading the team is Coach Bigman, who believes his players have reached their peak form at the perfect time.
“It’s a very important game, one that the players and I were looking forward to,” he said. “This is the first grand final we have reached and the first time we have made it this far in a major competition.”
Despite facing a team known for its finals experience, SAAT remains confident in its unity.
“We know what’s at stake,” Bigman explained. “We are playing against a team that has been to major finals before, so we know their experience will count. But we also rely on our teamwork.”
That teamwork, according to the coach, has become the squad’s defining strength this season.
“For SAAT as a whole we are in the best shape of our lives. All the players,” he said. “The team spirit this time is different.”
Victory would not only deliver a trophy but could mark the beginning of a new chapter for the college.
“Winning this final will give us an advantage in other competitions,” Bigman added.
