Sanwo-Olu reiterates loyalty to Tinubu, rejecting RIFT rumors as baseless

The Governor of the State of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has denied speculation of the ongoing rift between himself and the President of the Tinubu Bola, describing such claims and driven by external forces who want to move the division.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday after a closed meeting with the president at his ikoyi residence, Sanwo-Olu refused rumors as media fabrication of people “crying more than grieving.”

Joining a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC)-The highest political decision making body in the Lagos chapter from the Congress of all Progressive (APC) -Guctions clarify that his relationship with Tinubu remains a deep respect and political alignment.

“This is usual. You know, the visit of the council is a lively period and time for the President to meet his brothers, our party leaders … that is something they always look forward to,” Sanwo-Olu explained.

The governor stressed that the visit was part of the Sallah tradition that had long existed by GAC, which aimed to respect party elders and strengthen unity during the celebration season. He also used the opportunity to pray and express collective support for the president’s leadership.

Over the past few months, the report has suggested that Sanwo-Olu moves aside the Loyalist Tinubu Utama in Lagos, allegedly seeking greater political autonomy. But on Sunday, the Governor directly discussed and denied such satire, reiterating his loyalty to Tinubu, which he called “my leader and father.”

Sanwo-Olu also praised Tinubu by laying the foundation for the evolution of Lagos infrastructure, quoting federal support and state development such as the Blue Line railroad project, as an example of continuity and partnership.

In the midst of the background of the speculation and party separation felt, people in politics said the meeting also served as a strategic performance of strength and cohesion in the Lagos APC Block. It was attended by Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat and supporters of other top parties, who left a meeting with the GAC convoy – further indicating a united front.

Overcoming broader national issues, Sanwo-Olu pushed back to the planned protests before the June 12 democratic day, on the grounds that the current government directed the economy in the right direction.

“What will be the basis of protest? The economy has made a positive turn. Give this president more time,” he said.

The governor’s comments are seen as part of the broader political structuring in APC, which aims to stabilize the internal structure and reiterate the support for the new government expectation agenda.

Because speculation gives way to the public appearance of solidarity, Sanwo-Olu’s message is clear: there is no cracking of the shared unity and vision between lagos and presidence.
