SCORENigeria Top 5: Akor, Maduka Okoye, Moses Simon show class

Several Super Eagles stars once again showed their class across Europe over the weekend, from Jerome Akor in Spanish La Liga to Maduka Okoye in Italian Serie A and Moses Simon in French Ligue 1.

5.Frank Onyeka

The Super Eagles pulled off a decent turnaround as Coventry City all but booked promotion to the Premier League after a 26-year absence. He was on the park for 82 minutes and earned a personal score of 6.9 points in a crucial goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday. He has certainly made the most of his loan spell at Coventry from Brentford and it is now hoped that this transfer will be permanent so that he can once again play regularly in the English top flight in the new season.

4.Moses Simon

The daring winger assisted one of Paris FC’s goals as they defeated AS Monaco 4-1 and further eased any fears of them being relegated after reaching the French top league for this season. Simon has already provided three assists and as many goals this campaign for his new club. Paris occupies 12th place in the standings with 35 points, 11 points above the relegation zone with five days left in the regular season.

3.Alhassan Yusuf

The mercurial Super Eagles midfielder scored his second goal of the new MLS season and it proved to be the match-winner as the New England Revolution won their second straight game against DC United. Scoring goals has been this hard-working player’s biggest flaw, but it seems like he’s been working on it to get on the scoreboard more often.

2.Maduka Okoye

The goalkeeper made three great saves in a surprising 3-0 win against AC Milan to record his third consecutive clean sheet. His other previous clean sheets came in the goalless draw at Como and the 2-0 win at Genoa. He is Udinese’s undisputed number one and will undoubtedly be the safe bet for the Super Eagles’ starting shirt heading into the summer, as Stanley Nwabali has yet to decide the future of his club.

1.Jerome Akor

The great striker scored his eighth La Liga goal when he scored a penalty for Sevilla to finally end a poor run of results that had seen angry fans turn on the team following a defeat to bottom side Real Oviedo. The 26-year-old forward has eight goals and three assists this season. New coach García Plaza Luis said he believes there is more to come from the big center forward. The 2-1 victory against Atlético de Madrid has left them two points above the relegation zone. They occupy 16th place in the table with 35 points in 31 games with seven games left until the end of the season.
