The Nigerian Manpower Congress (NLC) has appealed to the federal government to make crude oil available for dangote refineries in Naira.
This, Union, noted, will not only force to reduce the price of PM but also make it available in the country in accordance with the promises made by the Federal Government after the transfer of subsidies to PMS at the beginning of its reign more than two years ago.
Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter from NLC Kamelarad Olufunmi Session, made this appeal during the refinery tour and dangote flizer limited, as well as facilities visits by members of the Association of Labor Writers Nigeria (opponents).
Accompanied by several executive members, Session said the dangote refinery, although still young, had fulfilled expectations.
“This country has abundant crude oil. So why is dangote still made to import crude oil or pay it in a hard currency?” NLC asks. “If the government is truly committed to reducing fuel prices and supporting local purification, it must sell crude oil to Dangote in Naira.”
Sessions that go to the memory path, given the price of the Spirit of Premium Motor (PMS) suddenly soaring after the transfer of subsidies to the intervention of dangote petroleum refineries in the market which is now gradually stabilizing prices.
“Sometimes in the past when President Tinubu began to take office, he announced the transfer of subsidies and then we saw skyrocketing PMS products. Not until Dangote came to save that the price of petroleum and other related products fall. We as a trade union, who requested the federal government, there are many products worn in this country. hard currency?
“We appeal to the federal government to sell our crude oil to this company to improve. When you sell crude oil in Naira and Dangote, not only the price will be reduced, it will be the same -the same is available for Nigerians.”
Furthermore, NLC noted that with a daily capacity of 650,000 barrels, dangote refineries can serve Nigeria including all sub-regions of West Africa. Session said the company also exported fertilizer outside Nigeria when there was a vacancy at home, emphasizing the need for authority to maximize opportunities.

He continued: “We are here today. We have seen the capacity that he will produce 6500 barrels every day which will be more than what is needed by the entire West Africa. We have also seen dangote capacity in fertilizer production. Therefore, we have seen how the ships are truly directed to it.
In addition to the appeal, the session said their mission was also included to see the welfare and trade unions in the company, adding that under labor law, workers also had the right to form trade unions to advance their interests.
“Our main concern is about the welfare of the workers. We know that Dangote is trying to do with providing job opportunities to thousands of Nigerians. But we also want to ensure that workers are happy in this environment. So we continue to dialogue. Interestingly, our presence today is like opening the eye to meet and get the company’s loyalty to allow us to unite their workers.”
Likewise, Vice President, Oil and Gas, Dangote Industries Limited, Mr. Devakumar Edwin, appreciated NLC and opponents.
Responding to the NLC, Edwin convinced labor leaders from the company’s firm commitment to the development of human resources, staff welfare, and overall economic welfare, in line with the philosophy of Aliko Dangote Chairman of Company, whose patriotism towards his homeland was not compromising.
Edwin stated that dangote refinery has introduced a compressed natural gas -powered fleet (CNG) as a strategic step to eliminate logistics costs in the distribution of fuel which he described as a major factor in the price of the final pump. Furthermore, he said the planned distribution of 4,000 powered trucks to support the distribution of processed petroleum products in Nigeria was to ensure that the Nigerians who were final users enjoyed the benefits of domestic purification and reduced the price of fuel produced.
In addition, the use of CNG -powered trucks is more environmentally friendly, Edwin said that he would significantly reduce transportation costs, eventually making processed products more affordable for Nigerians.
Furthermore, Edwin stressed the broader influence of the dangote industry business, especially in provoking healthy development and competition in all the main aspects of the country’s economy. He specifically refers to the success recorded by Dangote Sugar Refinery, which he said challenges other companies to invest in sugar production.
“We have seen it with sugar, and we have seen it with cement. The success of Semen Dangote caused the appearance of players like Bua, Mangal, and Lafarge expansion,” he added.
Edwin said dangote refinery not only helped overcome Nigeria’s old dependence on imported processed products but also set steps for a sustainable and competitive purification industry that would benefit a wider economy.
He said in general, Dangote Group is not only an institution but is also a fertile place for Nigerian engineers, scientists and technicians, who have worked as expatriates in various countries.
