Senate attracts a motion to the exception of the Anambra-Imo River River Watershed from the 2025 budget

The senate has attracted a motion with the exception of the Anambra/IMO river valley from the N380 billion which was allocated in the 2025 budget.

This follows the adoption of the motion presented by the Senate Leader, Openemi Bamidelle, and seconded by the minority leader, Senator Abba Moro, during the Thursday plenary in Abuja.

Bamidele noted that members of parliament had debated the initial motion of the Anambra/IMO dasons from the funding of the watershed authority project.

He said that every geopolitical zone had an urgent problem, and the senators from the affected area wanted to increase it to be considered in time.

Bamidele urged his colleagues to allow the leadership of the senate to involve the Minister of Water Resources on this issue regarding the negligence of the basin.

He then moved so that the motion backwards while waiting for further consultation and deliberation.

Previously, the mossi sponsor, Senator Kenneth Eze, quoted section 14, subsections 3 and 4 of the 1999 constitution.

He stressed that the National Assembly was given a mandate to ensure equality and national development nationally through appropriate laws and budget supervision.

Eze noted that under the new hope infrastructure plan, N3.2 trillion was allocated, with N380 billion allocated for irrigation development projects.

These projects, he said, will be carried out through the river watershed development authority to improve agriculture, increase food security, and create job opportunities.

He, however, regretted the exception of the Anambra/IMO river valley, which served the whole southeast, from the implementation of the budget.

Eze describes the disappearance as unjustified, damaging justice and contrary to the principles of justice and balanced national development.
