Senator Jiya dumps PDP for APC

The Senator representing Niger South Senatorial District, Peter Jiya, has switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jiya’s defection letter was read by the President of the Senate, Insha Allah Akpabio, at the plenary session which continued on Tuesday in Abuja.

The letter read: “I used to be a member of the PDP which is my sponsoring party.

“However, today I resigned from my membership of the PDP. This decision was due to significant disagreements and divisions within the party.

“Furthermore, please note that as of today, I have decided to join and join the All Progressives Congress (APC) to continue my political career.”

The Senator expressed his deepest gratitude to the PDP for giving him the opportunity to serve the nation and humanity.

“I remain grateful and wish the party a good future, especially if it is able to resolve its internal challenges,” added the letter.

Jiya’s defection brings the number of APC senators to 90, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has nine, the PDP, four, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) one and the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) one.

The New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) has one senator and Accord one.
