Senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan was briefly “detained” at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning while trying to get on board a flight to the United Kingdom.

According to reports, the senator, who represents Kogi Central, was stopped by the immigration officers and informed that he could not proceed with his journey due to his name inserted in a control list, following a request for the leadership of the National Assembly.

A family member who is familiar with the situation said that the legislator was traveling next to his husband to participate in his stepson’s degree ceremony in the United Kingdom when the officials of the departure terminal intercepted her.

“She was told that the leadership of the National Assembly asked to be considered a flight risk and inserted in a control list,” revealed the source.

“We are wondering why they treated it in that way, since there is no order of the court that limits its movement and has never lost any of its appearances in court.”

The accident aroused a sensation between travelers and airport staff members.

The development comes in the midst of an in -depth rift between the senator and the leadership of the Senate.

Senator Akpoti-Auduaghan is challenging his suspension from the Senate, who followed his refusal of the reassignment of his seat during the plenary.

He later leveled the accusations of sexual harassment against the president of the Senate Godswill Akpabio.

The federal government also started two criminal defamation procedures against the senator.

Witnesses said that the senator protested against restriction and was seen making more urgent phone calls.

“Her passport was finally stamped and she was allowed to proceed,” said one of the witnesses.

When it was contacted shortly before departure, Mrs. Akpoti-Auduaghan confirmed the development but said: “The plane is about to take off”.
