Senator Natasha sued colleagues, NwaeBonyi, demanding N5BN in damage

The suspended parliamentary member representing the Kogi Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uuduaghan, slammed the N5 billion lawsuit against the Ebonyi Senator, Onyebonyi, accused him of alleged defamation of what he called as a false statement which he made during the media interview on March 20.

In the lawsuit filed before the Federal Capital High Court, Abuja, on Monday on the name of his legal team led by MJ Numa (San), Akpoti-Uuduaguan highlighted a series of slandering comments allegedly made by NwaeBonyi on national television platforms including television channels and news appeared.

Claiming that the comments made by NwaEBONYI befell his person and described him as a loose woman, Members of the Kogi Parliament said he was looking for many declarations from the court, because his statement was evil, wrong, and damaged his public image.

He noted that in one of the interviews on the Sunrise Daily TV channel on March 6, 2025, NwaeBonyi allegedly referred to him, among others, as “gold digger,” “liar of habits,” and “habits.”

“These statements are not only wrong but are intended to tarnish their image and reputation in public,” said the senator who was fought in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also referred to another interview given by NwaEBonyi TV News on March 3, 2025, where he allegedly claimed that Natasha was “a mother of six children from different men.”

He argues that such comments are deliberately made to injure their characters and reduce their credibility, especially as public figures and female politicians.

The lawsuit also included videos published on YouTube from News Central TV on March 27, where NwaeBonyi stated that his marriage was a extortion product and that he had demanded N10 billion from her husband.

He stated that in the same video, NwaeBonyi mistakenly accused him of committing alleged sexual harassment of former president’s aide.

“This slandering statement has caused a great prosecutor, the dangers of reputation, shame, and emotional pressure,” the letter said.

Natasha said she was looking for N5 billion in damage, claiming that NwaeBonyi’s actions had greatly damaged her reputation and public position.

In addition to financial compensation, Senator Natasha demanded the revocation of slandering and apologies in the national newspaper and other media outlets within seven days after the court’s decision and the orders of the Abadi to prevent the defendant and his colleagues to issue comments from slandering.

The court process has not been assigned the date of the trial, because the defendant is expected to respond within 21 days from the date of the warrant service.
