Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) has challenged the former Governor of the State of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai night to surrender himself for the supervision of the accusations of the abuse of state funds during his term of office in the office as evidence of his accountability to the people he served.
NYF, who made a call in a statement on Sunday, also asked all leaders, first and now, to embrace the responsibility to the public with a warning that true leadership is marked by humility and willingness to be held accountable.
In a statement signed by his national coordinator, Moses, NYF expressed concern that the efforts of the authorities to make El-Rufai showed themselves for an eight-year government investigation because the Governor of Kaduna had met with resistance, warning that such actions damaged democratic governance and public accountability.
Moses also asked El-Rufai to show leadership by cooperating with valid questions for his government because accountability is not only personal obligations but also the needs of the community.
“Public office is a sacred trust, and those who occupy such a position are bound by the task to uphold the highest integrity standards. Kaduna citizens, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve to get transparency and accountability from their leaders, both during and after their time in the office,” said NYF.
“It is very disappointing to witness a former governor who has fought for good governance, avoiding supervision when called to explain his actions. Such behavior not only raises questions about his management but also set dangerous precedents for future leaders.
“We assert that accountability is not an act of betrayal; rather, it is a fundamental task of every leader. When a former governor or president is called to provide an explanation of his government, taking violations of such calls is unfair and inappropriate from civil servants.

“Leaders must remember that they are responsible to the people they serve, and the hope for accountability should not be seen as insult but as an aspect needed from governance.
“During his term of office, Mr. El-Rufai made several statements and controversial decisions that had been monitored. In particular, he boasted that his personal security network was greater than the police, increasing significant concerns about the role of state resources and implications for public safety.
“In addition, its acceptance of ransom payments and supplies to bandits is very worrying. Such actions not only endanger the security of our community but also send messages that disturb the state approach to law and order.
“The consequences of governance choices cannot be swept under rugs, they will demand accountability. We urged him to embrace the opportunity to clarify their actions and decisions, because they failed to do so only to perpetuate the culture of impunity that had infected our political landscape for too long.
“We call on Mr. El-Rufai to show leadership with voluntarily participating in every legal question about his government. It is very important for him to recognize that accountability is not only a personal obligation but a community’s need.
“By being involved with supervision, he can help restore confidence in our political institutions and contribute to the culture of transparency which is very important for the progress of the State of Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole. We, the border of northern youth, stands firm in our commitment to promote accountability and transparency in government.
“We ask all leaders, first and now, to embrace their responsibilities to the public and to acknowledge that true leadership is marked by humility and willingness to be held accountable.
“We will continue to advocate for the rights of youth and the northern Nigerians, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns are handled. The time for accountability is now, and we ask Mr. El-Rufai to go up to that opportunity,” Nyf’s statement said.
