Senegal refuses to return AFCON 2025 trophy

The Senegal Lions football team celebrates

Senegal have refused to return their Africa Cup of Nations trophy after a controversial verdict by the Confederation of African Football.

CAF stripped Senegal of the 2025 title, ruling the final a walkover and awarding hosts Morocco a 3-0 victory.

The decision followed Senegal’s dramatic abandonment in injury time, which CAF said violated the rules of the game.

The situation worsened when coach Pape Thiaw ordered his players off the pitch after Morocco were awarded a last-minute penalty.

However, Senegal strongly rejected the decision, calling it “unjust, unprecedented and unacceptable.”

Senegalese Football Federation general secretary Abdoulaye Sow also denounced corruption within CAF and insisted the trophy would not be returned.
