Seun Kuti spoke against protests without leaders who did not have directions

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has explained why he does not support the idea of protest without a leader, emphasizing that meaningful social change requires structure and accountability.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, the youngest son of the pioneer of Afrobeat Fela Kuti argues that while the spontaneous mass movement can mobilize people quickly, they often lose direction without clear leadership.

According to Kuti, history has shown that a revolution without a recognized leader is easily hijacked, suppressed, or diverted from its original goal.

“I do not support protests without leaders,” Kuti said. “Nepalese have just moved the military government about 20 years ago, but with a new protest, they have just brought back the military, and that is what happened when you rebel without a political platform.”

Seun Kuti stressed that the progress of Nigeria democracy was hampered by the lack of professional classes that were dedicated and active.

“What is missing in Nigeria is a professional class that has upper class jobs and is also interested in the development of the country,” he explained.
