β It is a betrayal- omokri
Adamson Adeboro, Senior supporter of Nigeria (San), praised the Department of State Security (DSS) for challenging the legality of the shadow government proposed by a former presidential candidate, Prof. Pat Utomi.
Adamson said the DSS was civil and acted within the boundaries of his mandate.
For his part, a helper of the former president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, described the shadow government of Utomi as a betrayal.
Utomi, professor of political economy, had recently started what he called the “shadow government of the Big Tent Coalition”, which, according to him, would have been a “national emergency response” to systematically monitor the government’s actions, identify failures and propose alternative solutions between critical sectors.
However, speaking of Sunday evening on Arise TV, Adaboro expressed satisfaction with the DSS for having recited the legality of the shadow of Utomi in court within the borders of his mandate and quickly challenging.
According to Adeboro, “DSS has a mandate, which includes the detection and prevention of subversion, terrorism, espionage, among others. If one of the mandates of the DSS is to prevent subversion, how can we sit the declaration of the erudite professor who brought together the people who find themselves at what a shadow tagged?
“We offer a presidential government system. The question should then: is this shadow government known to our Constitution? The DSS saw it as an act of subversion aimed at undermining a democratically elected government.
“Some might ask you why the DSS has chosen a civil case compared to a criminal? My answer is that the DSS has chosen to submit to the courts to determine whether the actions and expressions of the revisited professor can be located within the boundaries of the Constitution”, he added, underlining, “this is a civil way to do things”.
For his part, Omokri expressed surprise that Utomi, who was an assistant of President Shehu Shagari, could not realize that the presidential democracies had no room for shadow governments from any form or form.
He said: βto form a shadow government under a presidential government system is a betrayal. You cannot try it in the United States. And from section 1 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria:
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be governed, nor no person or group of people assume control of the government of Nigeria or them, if not in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.
“It does not form a shadow government in a presidential government system because a presidential system is a republican democracy, which means that the president is both the head of state and the head of the government,” said Omokri.
