Shandong gets a 2-year ban from the Asian club competition after no-show

The Chinese club Shandong Taishan was banned from the Asian club competition for two years for his no-show against the South Korean team Ulysan HD in the Asia of the Champions League (ACL) in February.

The Chinese team of the Super League pulled out hours before the game of February 19, blaming “Serious physical discomfort” of players and saying that they were unable to form a team.

The disciplinary and ethical commission of the Confederation of Asian football (AFC) has declared that Shandong would not be able to play in the competitions of the AFC club up to the editions of the 2026/27 season and fined the club $ 50,000.

He also ordered Shandong to return a participation commission of $ 600,000 and a performance bonus of $ 200,000 to the FC together with an $ 40,000 compensation in Ulsan “in relation to the damage and losses requested” by the South Korean club.

Shandong’s pull-out came days after the club said he had banned supporters of “inappropriate behaviors” during a home ACL match against the South Korean team Gwangju after fans among the crowd showed images of the latest military dictator of South Korea Chun Doo-Hwan.

It is estimated that hundreds of people died or disappeared when the South Korean government violently put Gwangju’s revolt by the demonstrators in favor of democracy in May 1980, when Chun was the country in the country after guiding a military military state coup
