The Saudi authorities have expelled an important Islamic scholar based in Kaduna, the sheikh Ahmad Gumi in Nigeria, after preventing him from performing in the Hij of 2025.
The cleric confirmed the development on Monday 26 May 2025, through a post on his Facebook page.
According to Gumi, although he has been issued a Visa valid for Hajj, he was denied entry to Medina upon arrival.
“For some reasons related to my opinions on world politics, the authorities in Saudi Arabia do not want to be present in Hajj even if they have given me a visa,” he wrote.
Gumi expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government, stating that officials promised to commit themselves to the Saudi authorities regarding the accident.
Sources indicate that the sheikh Gumi was part of a delegation of religious scholars sponsored by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (Nahcon) for this year’s pilgrimage.
He arrived in Medina on Saturday evening around 10:30 pm through an Air Uir flight, but was stopped by Saudi immigration and denied the entrance. Since then he has returned to Nigeria and has resumed his regular activities, including teaching.
