Shettima insists on running for Kaduna Central Senate and rejects claims of “anointed candidate”.

A senatorial aspirant for Kaduna Central and convener of the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative (NSCI), Yerima Shettima, has reaffirmed her resolve to contest the 2027 Senate elections, dismissing speculations of the emergence of an “anointed candidate” within the ruling party.

Shettima spoke while addressing journalists at a press conference in Kaduna, where he said his ambition is driven by the desire to provide quality representation to the people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

He described reports suggesting support for a preferred candidate as false, urging party members to ignore such claims.

“I want to state clearly that I am running for Kaduna Central Senate. Rumors of an anointed candidate are harmful and should be ignored. I have faith in the party leadership to provide a level playing field for all aspirants,” he said.

The aspirant expressed confidence that Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Uba Sani will ensure fairness, while stressing the need for transparent primaries that allow stakeholders to freely choose candidates.

He warned party leaders against actions capable of undermining democracy and weakening public trust, stressing that due process must be upheld.

“We must allow the rule of law, internal democracy and the will of the people to prevail. If the party decides by consensus, all candidates must be supported. I will abide by the outcome of credible primaries conducted in line with the party’s constitution,” he added.

Shettima urged his supporters to remain calm amid the rumours, expressing optimism that the party will emerge victorious if due processes are followed.

He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and called for continued support from President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.
