Shettimo Arpe on education as public investments with higher …

Vice -president Shettimo gave the tip to education as a public investment with higher returns.

He also said that every additional year at school increases life earnings and reduces the risks of fragility and conflict.

Shettimo spoke in a high -level event organized by permanent missions in Italy and Nigeria, together with Global Partnership for Education (GPE) in New York.

The news agency of Nigeria (Nan) reports that the event was held on the margins of the 80th session during the United Nations General Assembly (Unga).

The event was hosted to discuss the opportunities that invest in the education of quality quality in the world.

Shettimo observed that well -targeted education financing faces the causes at the root of instability, extreme poverty and youth unemployment, observing that the GPE has an impact on financing, political support and targeted incentives.

According to the Nigerian vice -president, Gpe mobilizes internal resources and co -financing, multiplying the impact of each dollar invested.

Shettimo said that the GPE multiplier and the co -financing mechanism have influenced billions of funding beyond the subsidies of GPE.

“GPE has a record of mobilization partners and supply of results on a large scale.

“In recent years, the partnership has approved and paid significant volumes of subsidy and exploited innovative funding to achieve millions of children.

“Only in 2024, GPE approved over $ 1.2 billion in new subsidies and has mobilized over 1.5 billion dollars in co -finance – evidence that the partnership model works when it is financed and priority.

“It is important to recognize that GPE cannot fulfill its mission without predictable and adequate supply.

“In the 2021-2025 cycle, GPE has collected about 4.2 billion dollars, a significant result, but still short of what is necessary to fully transform education,” he said.

Shettimo said that Nigeria is expanding access to early childhood, improving the training and investments of teachers in marginalized regions.

“A remarkable GPE subsidy in Nigeria is helping us to integrate religious schoolchildren in the main education of the flow and train teachers in all states, in particular to support education for girls,” he said.

He invited donors to safeguard and increase official development assistance for basic education.

Shettimo also urged the donors to prioritize flexible and predictable funding to strengthen systems and support targeted initiatives such as education accelerators of girls who offer significant social returns.

He also observed that the fully funded supply will unlock the essential grants and technical assistance necessary in countries where the impact would be very deep.

“Nigeria is ready to work with all partners to make GPE 2030 a turning point and a supply that provides both the scale and the measurable learning for children who have the privilege of serving.

“We hope that our collective action corresponds to the scope of our children’s promise,” added Shettimo.

By responding, Jakaya Kikwete, president, GPE Board of Directors, said that the organization will launch his most ambitious financing campaign to mobilize the investments of five million dollars.

He added that with the GPE investment he will remove another 10 billion dollars from other innovative financiers.

“Together we will improve education for almost 750 million children and form 10 million teachers by 2030.

“I am pleased to announce that GPE has already received $ 50 million in the first commitments from private and philanthropic donors.

“The transformation of the educational system is essential, therefore it is transforming the financing of education.

“We have to move away from a short long -term fragmented period to long -term sustainable investment strategies,” he said.

According to Kikwete, education gives reason to hope and opens new ways of growth, peace and opportunities.

He added that in the last 50 years, education had given half of global economic growth.

“But our concern today is the next 50 years, the largest generation of children and young people in history is becoming of age.

“Most live in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.

“A quality education is not only their fundamental right, but also the key to unlocking their potential,” he said.
