Siasia set to return as Super Eagles coach as NFF denies interest in Renard

The search for a new coach for the Nigerian senior team will reach a new level later this month. OwnGoalNigeria.comunderstands.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has already received applications from around 15 Coaches interested in filling the void created by the departure of Finidi George, who resigned from his position after just over a month at the helm of the team.

Finidi, who led the team in their world cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively, where they drew 1-1 and suffered a 1-2 defeat, has stepped down from his role, after the NFF made it clear that will be bringing in an expatriate coach to lead the team.

His successor is likely to be a foreign coach, but some indigenous coaches are also in the mix and one of them is Samson Siasia, who will return from a training ban in September, the month the team is expected to return to action. .

“Some people here at the NFF have mentioned Siasia, but I have to say not as a head coach. There is room for a Nigerian to help whoever gets the nod as head coach and don’t you think it will be better for Siasia to return that way,” he asked.

Meanwhile, the NFF has also distanced itself from media reports circulating about its interest in having decorated and celebrated French coach Hervé Renard, who will be released from his role as coach of the French women’s national team in September.

Renard is highly respected on the African continent after leading Zambia and Ivory Coast to the African Cup of Nations title in 2012 and 2015 respectively.
