Simon Ekpa exploits the emotions and suffering of Ndigbo people for personal gain — Enugu Governor, Mbah

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has accused the Prime Minister of the Biafran Government in Exile (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa, of exploiting the emotions and suffering of the Igbo people to hold them hostage.

The governor who stated this on Saturday when he received members of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, during an oversight working visit to the state, said the Finland-based Ekpa took advantage of the people of the Southeast to manipulate them at will for his personal interests.

However, he appealed to the public to reject Ekpa’s renewed call for another sit-in as it would further impoverish them and hamper their efforts.

Mbah reiterated his government’s commitment to ending the illegal sit-in carried out by non-state actors that are holding the people hostage both psychologically and economically.

“Simon Ekpa created a kind of siege atmosphere and exploited it to make a living, continuing to blackmail and exploit our people, who may not be aware, and telling them that he is fighting for their interests.

“He is exploiting the emotions and suffering of Ndigbo people for his selfish motives. How can you claim to love our people, a people who are known to work hard, and sit somewhere to dictate to us when to work and when not to work? So, I also want to use this opportunity to appeal to our people to ignore this menace.

“We have demonstrated our capacity to provide security for our people and we will continue to do so through the assistance of our security agencies.

“We must not be intimidated. We must not submit to the atmosphere of siege that he wants to create in the Southeast. We appreciate our hard work as a nation.

“So, you can’t love a people and all you do is sacrifice their existence just to gain followers and get cheap publicity.

“I also appeal to the youth, do not fall into cheap ignorance like this because it is completely contrary to our religious teachings. It is contrary to our values and work ethics,” said Mbah.
